A question which is often raised in relation to weight loss is how long it will take a person to reach his/her goals? In order for you to be able to determine just how long it will take you to lose those extra pounds, you need to gather information relating to your body's composition.
First, you need to determine just how much of your body is fat and how much of it is mass (muscle and bone). There are certain measurements one can take that will help to calculate out what percentage of your body weight is mass and what is fat.
For men, the measurements that they need to take are their body weight and their waist. For women, they don't only need to weigh themselves, they also need to measure the circumference of their waist, hips, wrist and forearm. Then they need to carry out some calculations and this will help them to work out what percentage of their body is made up of fat.
There are plenty of sites online that explain the calculations you need to carry out and allow you to just enter the measurements you have taken and the calculations will be done for you. Once you know what percentage of fat your body is made up of, you can then start to determine how long it is going to take for you to burn it off.
First off, before you can determine how long it is going to take you to lose the weight, you need to determine what weight it is you want to reach. As soon as you know the weight you want to be, you deduct this amount from what you weigh currently. Say for example you wanted to weigh 203 lbs and you weighed 220 lbs then you will need to lose 17 lbs.
To calculate how long it is going to take you to lose the weight you need to divide the weight loss goal by how much you intend to lose each week. Therefore if your aim is to lose 1 lb each week, expect it to take you 17 weeks to lose those 17 lbs. Also you need to factor into the calculation that you are trying to burn off fat rather than muscle.
So it is crucial that you devise a diet and exercise plan which will ensure that this is what happens. In fact those who work to lose 1 lb each week will more likely reach their goal than if they were to diet or starve themselves.
The problem when it comes to weight loss and how long it takes to achieve the desired goals will also depend upon a person's determination and will power to stick with the new dietary and exercise regime. Many people also tend to give up if they don't see any physical changes in the first couple of weeks.
